Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a linear, semi-crystalline thermoplastic with almost universal chemical resistance. PTFE is also characterised by very good electrical and dielectric properties and a continuous service temperature of 260°C. PTFE has an extremely low static and dynamic coefficient of friction, which is why it is often used for the tribological modification of other plastics. However, its wear resistance is quite low. Furthermore, PTFE without fillers has only low mechanical strength and deforms considerably under load.
Main features
- Almost universal chemical resistance
- Good electrical and dielectric properties
- Low mechanical strength.
Due to their properties, all PTFE types are only suitable for mechanically stressed applications to a limited extent. However, it is used in particular for Seals and sealing elementsfor Insulation components and for sliding elements subject to very low mechanical loads.
PTFE mixes well with high filler contents and is therefore available in many different types. At the same time, PTFE is the basis for various Special plastics.
In addition to the unfilled standard quality, we also offer qualities with various fillers.
