Ultem® (PEI)

Ultem® is an amorphous Polyimidewhich has good thermoplastic processability due to the inclusion of aromatic ether groups in the molecular chain. However, this polyetherimide (PEI) is also the least temperature-resistant polyimide with a heat deflection temperature of just under 200°C.


Ultem® offers good mechanical and electrical properties. The material is flame-retardant with low smoke development in the event of fire and has good dielectric strength with consistent dielectric properties.

Ultem®, which is brown-red transparent in its unfilled state, is also highly resistant to hydrolysis and high-energy radiation, making it particularly suitable for components used in food and medical technology.

In particular, Ultem® 2300 reinforced with glass fibres is often used for dimensionally stable insulation components.
