High molecular weight polyethylene (PE-HMW)
High molecular weight (HMW) polyethylene has an average molar mass of approx. 500 thousand g/mol (corresponds to DIN 16972 TG 3).
The material offers a balanced combination of rigidity, toughness and mechanical damping capacity and is slightly superior to PE-HD in these properties.PE-HMW can be thermoformed and can be welded. Semi-finished products are available in extruded and moulded form. Due to the relatively high molecular weight, injection moulding is only possible to a limited extent.
Main features
- Good damping capacity
- Better mechanical strength than PE-HD
- Heat deflection temperature > 40°C
Components made of Ultra Wear® 500 can also be supplied with a food contact safety certificate in accordance with Regulation (EC) 1935/2004.
