APPLICATIONS
Roller applications
Rollers, wheels or rollers are used in almost all industrial, but also in many commercial applications to reduce resistance to movement. They are usually used as elements for power transmission and/or for guiding movements and as equalising elements to absorb relative movements. Automatic door systems, bearings, cam controls, cable guides or high-speed transport systems are classic areas of application for rollers, wheels or rollers.
Castors and wheels made of plastic offer considerable advantages, particularly in areas of application where smooth running and/or particular wear resistance are required. In addition to corrosion resistance, the good damping properties and the gentle behaviour towards the running surfaces are usually reasons for using plastics. High-strength but brittle materials are less suitable than a tough plastic with a low modulus of elasticity but high wear resistance. Fibre-reinforced types are therefore only used in exceptional cases. Tribologically modified types are also used in order to be able to dispense with complex bearings for the wheels and castors.
POLYTRON has been supplying polyamide (PA) rope and chain rollers for a wide range of industrial applications since the very beginning. Today, the company mainly manufactures high-speed and heavy-duty (cam) rollers, bearing cages and self-lubricating rollers that do not require separate bearings. POLYTRON can offer technical solutions, particularly for extreme application conditions and tight tolerance requirements, where standard plastic components often have to give up.
Advantages of plastics:
- Smooth running and wear resistance
- Chemical and corrosion resistance
- Optimum damping properties and gentle behaviour towards running surfaces
