Teratron - Thermoplastic polyester (PET/PBT)

A modified grade is available for tribological applications; the evenly distributed fluorocarbon-based solid lubricant added in a balanced ratio reduces the coefficient of friction and improves the sliding properties of the material. Together with the fundamentally good wear resistance and the relatively high dynamic load carrying capacity, this results in an excellent plain bearing material.

PBT is only available with glass fibre reinforcement for machining. Although the strength and rigidity of PBT is generally somewhat lower compared to PET, the glass fibre reinforcement compensates for this shortcoming. The glass fibre reinforcement makes the material an extremely rigid and dimensionally stable plastic for precision components.

Main features

  • High mechanical strength
  • Good wear resistance
  • Heat resistant up to 75°C

Thermoplastic polyester is also available as an elastomer (TPC or TPE-E). These so-called thermoplastic elastomers combine the rubber-elastic properties of cross-linked elastomers with the processability of thermoplastics. Amorphous and therefore transparent thermoplastic polyesters (PET-A, PET-G) with high optical quality are also possible.
