Victrex® PAEK
Polyaryletherketones (PAEK) are semi-crystalline high-performance polymers that are superior to most plastics in terms of temperature and media resistance.
PAEKs contain ether and ketone groups in the polymer chain. The proportion of ketone groups in relation to the ether groups determines the melting and glass transition temperature of the different PAEKs and therefore influences the mechanical strength under the influence of temperature in particular. In principle, different combinations of ether and ketone groups and thus different melting and glass transition temperatures are possible. However, the best known form is PEEK. The continuous service temperature of all PAEKs is 260°C.
PAEKs exhibit high strength and rigidity and are resistant to almost all organic and inorganic chemicals and hydrolysis-resistant up to 260°. They are considered to be highly pure, hardly outgas in a vacuum and are classified as physiologically harmless and therefore suitable for contact with humans. Food suitable. They also fulfil the highest requirements for biocompatibility and can be used in Medical and pharmaceutical applications can be used.
PAEKs are self-extinguishing and produce little smoke in the event of fire. The electrical and dielectric properties are excellent even at high temperatures.
Main features
- Continuous operating temperature 250°C
- High mechanical strength and rigidity
- highly pure and physiologically harmless.
Due to their properties, PAEKs are used for a wide variety of thermally stressed components in all conceivable applications. POLYTRON only offers PAEK grades made from original Victrex® raw materials.
In addition to the basic Victrex® PEEK™ grade, which is available in various modifications, there is also a high-temperature Victrex® HT (PEK) grade and a special Victrex® ST (PEKEKK) grade that is mechanically particularly strong and even more temperature-resistant.
Overview of the processed qualities
PAEK types
Due to their properties, PAEKs are used for a wide variety of thermally stressed components in all conceivable applications. In addition to the basic grade Victrex® PEEK™, which is available in various modifications, there is also a high-temperature grade Victrex® HT (PEK) and a special grade Victrex® ST (PEKEKK), which is mechanically particularly strong and even more temperature-resistant. The following types are available:
- Victrex® PEEK™ is the unfilled PEEK standard grade. The material has a unique combination of very good mechanical properties and excellent resistance to chemicals and radiation. It is also resistant to hydrolysis and does not degas in a vacuum. PEEK is classified as physiologically harmless.

- Victrex® PEEK™ GL30 (PEEK GF30) is a grade modified with 30% glass fibre reinforcement. It is characterised by higher rigidity and creep resistance compared to unfilled PEEK and has significantly better dimensional stability over a wide temperature range.
' Data sheet
- Victrex® PEEK™ CA30 (PEEK CF30) is a grade with 30% carbon fibre reinforcement. Here, the mechanical strength and creep resistance is also further improved compared to the glass fibre reinforced PEEK. In addition, the carbon fibres increase the thermal conductivity.
' Data sheet
- Victrex® PEEK™ FC30 (PEEK mod.) is a tribologically modified grade with 10% each of graphite, carbon fibres and fluorocarbon. Due to its modification, the material has a higher mechanical strength, a lower coefficient of friction and a lower tendency to wear compared to unreinforced PEEK.
' Data sheet
- Victrex® HT (PEK) is the unfilled PEK standard grade. Due to the balanced ratio of ether and ketone groups, it outperforms the familiar PEEK in terms of its properties, which is particularly evident in the higher glass transition and melting temperature. Due to its higher glass transition temperature, the material can be used where PEEK can no longer withstand the thermal stresses.
' Data sheet
- Victrex® ST (PEKEKK) is the unfilled PEKEKK standard grade. It surpasses the known and established PEAK in its properties, which is particularly evident in the significantly higher glass transition temperature of 164°C and the higher melting temperature of 389°C. Thanks to its higher glass transition temperature, the material can be used where PEK or PEEK can no longer withstand the thermal loads.

Victrex® PEEK™ components can also be supplied with a food contact safety certificate in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004.
