Polytron PA 12G (PA 12 G) - Polyamide 12
Polyamide 12 (PA 12) is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic with the lowest water absorption of all polyamides. It is characterised by high toughness and comparatively good chemical resistance. PA 12 is therefore ideal for bearings and drive elements in humid environments where high dimensional stability is required.
In terms of strength and hardness, however, PA 12 falls behind the PA 6 or PA 6.6-based grades. To improve strength, a modification reinforced with 30% glass fibres, PA 12-GF30, is available on request.
Like PA 6, PA 12 can also be processed by moulding. Laurinactam base units are polymerised to form molten PA 12 G, which can be cast without pressure using catalysts. In this way, semi-finished products or components of simple geometry can also be produced in sizes and wall thicknesses that are unusual for plastics. The advantages are the higher molecular weight, which improves rigidity and toughness, and the lower stress content. PA 12 G is particularly suitable for moulded steel parts (PA 12 G with steel core).
